Using earth observation data for studying climate migration: an exploration of methodological opportunities and constraints
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: As the effects of climate change are increasingly being felt, understanding its impact on population and migration trends is becoming crucial. Although some research has covered the link between the two, a systematic approach remains uncharted territory. As knowledge on both climate-induced migration and climate change are both extremely complex, developing a cross-fielded methodological approach with the potential to tackle them simultaneously is a promising avenue to put forward. This article introduces a novel methodology that leverages the disruptive capabilities of Earth Observation to examine the highly complex relationships between the various impacts of climate change and climate-induced migration.
