Abstract: This study is to clarify the actual status of metal sheet cladding work in 10 villages in Iga City, where many thatched private houses still remain, through an interview survey. The survey revealed that new construction of thatched houses stopped around 1960, and that metal sheet covering work started around 1955 and reached its peak around 1970. It was also found that the timing and materials of metal shingle covering were influenced by the distance from the city center and the different roofing materials originally used.
