Forecasting of River Inflow Using Artificial Intelligence

Abstract: Recently, the role of artificial intelligence has increased dramatically in various areas of human activity. It is especially actively involved in machine activities, where statistical data analysis can be used to predict the future. One such area is river flow forecasting, where statistical analysis is directly related to the correct prediction of the future. The introduction of artificial intelligence can bring great benefits to water resources. It is worth noting the fact that in most programs, errors in artificial intelligence, that is, incorrect interpretation of its results, do not lead to catastrophic consequences. As long as they meet most of the requirements imposed on them, some failures are not harmful. The issue of water resources is usually more sensitive, especially when it comes to floods and droughts. The paper describes previous experience in the application of artificial intelligence to water resources, highlighting their advantages, limitations and threats.
