The Association of Work- Life Conflict and Satisfaction: Perceived Meaningfulness as a Moderator

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines the complex relationship between work-life conflict and satisfaction, highlighting perceived meaningfulness as an important factor. Rather than a simple linear link, the study introduces an inverted U-shaped model, suggesting that moderate levels of work-life conflict can improve satisfaction by boosting a sense of achievement. However, too much or too little balance may lead to burnout or a loss of purpose. Perceived meaningfulness can reduce these negative effects by helping individuals cope better, view conflict as valuable, and maintain mental well-being. The study draws from self-determination theory, the job demands-resources model, and affective neuroscience to explain why satisfaction changes at different levels of balance. It also offers practical suggestions such as creating flexible work schedules, supporting internal motivation, and using AI tools to predict optimal balance levels. Finally, the paper encourages future research across cultures and job types using real-time monitoring and technology-based solutions to improve satisfaction outcomes.
