Conflictual media text in the aspect of language and law interaction (based on a social media post)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article addresses issues within the field of legal linguistics. The authors focus on a post published on INSTAGRAM (organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) pertaining to cases of insult, defamation of honor and dignity, and damage to business reputation. The research aims to describe the linguistic and communicative markers of personal insult. The article reviews the work of experts from the GLADIS research community, provides recommendations from scholars regarding the analysis of publications related to defamation cases, and identifies problems encountered in forensic examinations. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the generalization of experience accumulated in legal linguistics in conducting research on conflictual media texts, and in the attempted assessment of the degree of reputational threat inherent in the presented material. The results obtained show that the INSTAGRAM post contains invectives that violate moral principles and are directed at a government official. The publication functions as a public call for hostile attitudes towards this individual, possesses a high potential to damage the honor, dignity, and business reputation of the traffic police officer, and creates a risk to the reputation of the entire law enforcement organization.
