Abstract: The walking catfish, scientifically known as Clarias batrachus, is extensively studied across aquaculture, the aquarium trade, and various scientific disciplines owing to its economic significance and distinctive attributes. This research aims to investigate the multifaceted functions of the skin mucus generated by Clarias batrachus. Belonging to the Clariidae family within the Order Siluriformes, Clarias batrachus is renowned for its ability to breathe air, enabling it to thrive in diverse habitats.Skin mucus in fish plays a crucial role in the innate immune system, serving as a safeguard against pathogens. The composition of mucus varies among species, with Clarias batrachus producing a copious amount of mucus, possibly as an adaptive mechanism to its surroundings. This mucus is rich in antimicrobial peptides, lipid molecules , sugars , antimicrobial proteins ,protein-digesting enzymes, immunoglobulins, and lectins. Collectively, these components impart significant antimicrobial qualities to the skin mucus
