Effect of temperature on galvanic corrosion of B30 copper alloy/TA1 titanium alloy galvanic couple in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The galvanic corrosion behavior of B30/TA1 galvanic couple in 3.5 % NaCl solution was examined using electrochemical noise (EN) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). At 30 °C, TA1 served as the cathode, with B30 as the anode. A reversal in polarity occurred at 45 °C and 60 °C, where TA1 acted as the anode and B30 as the cathode. The time-domain analysis of the EN revealed that the corrosion type for TA1/B30 galvanic coupling was localized corrosion. Frequency-domain analysis via Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) of spectral noise resistance ( R sn ) displayed a pattern consistent with that of R n in the time domain. The corrosion products on TA1 primarily consist of TiO 2 and minor Ti 2 O 3 , while B30 corrosion products exhibited a bi-layer structure, comprising an inner layer (film corrosion product) and an outer layer (granular corrosion product).
