Effect of finisher Gentlefile Brush, XP-Endo Finisher and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation in removing radiopaque double antibiotic paste from the root canal

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The complete elimination of double antibiotic paste (DAP) before obturation is a critical clinical challenge in endodontics. This study evaluated three systems for removing radiopaque DAP from root canals. After being instrumented and filled with radiopaque DAP, 42 human mandibular premolars were incubated for 14 days. Specimens were equally divided into three groups and medicament was removed using the Finisher Gentlefile Brush, XP-Endo Finisher and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI). The Finisher Gentlefile Brush demonstrated exceptional DAP removal, achieving complete elimination in the middle third and superior cleaning rates in both coronal and apical regions. Despite the Finisher Gentlefile Brush's remarkable performance, complete DAP elimination was not achieved with any method, indicating a persistent clinical challenge.
