3D deployment of multi-UAV networks for maximizing total system throughput of ground users

Abstract: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used as aerial base stations due to their high mobility and flexibility. However, the challenge of satisfying the heterogeneous Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements of Ground Users (GUs) while maximizing the overall system performance persists. To address this issue, this paper proposes a low-complexity Three-Dimensional (3D) deployment algorithm for multiple UAVs with the aim of maximizing the overall system throughput. The proposed algorithm is divided into two stages: In the first stage, a QoS-Priority-driven Maximum Coverage Circle (QPMCC) strategy is designed to determine the horizontal positions of UAVs that enhance the overall GUs coverage. In the second stage, the altitudes of UAVs are adjusted to improve system throughput. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms benchmark schemes in terms of overall performance while maintaining extremely low time complexity.
