Abstract: Modern scientific and technical civilization largely inherits the values and guidelines that appeared in the New Age. This work is devoted to the consideration of the mutual influence of metaphysical concepts and technical projects in the development of space. The metaphysical context of the use of technical things is the idea of space as a substance. Scientific discoveries made with the help of a telescope, microscope and barometer eliminate the incidents of invisible space, space becomes visible. The emergence of a marine chronometer allows us to solve the old problem of finding longitude, makes it possible to solve travel safety issues and political issues of a territorial nature. Space is mastered as an entity that allows us to go directly into being.
