Abstract: In its first part, this article develops a variational formulation for modeling a chemical reaction suitable to represent a combustion process. The results are obtained through standard tools of calculus of variations and optimization theory in function spaces. We assume such a chemical reaction develops in a control volume which allows the entering and leaving of the concerned reacting chemical substances. We highlight the related fluid motion is addressed in an Eulerian context. Finally, in the last sections, we present a variational formulation for a model in superconductivity, including a magnetic field and respective magnetic potential.
