Effects of Jasmonic Acid Foliar Spraying and Irrigation Intervals on the Chemical Properties of Three Broccoli Hybrids

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: A study was carried out at the Agriculture Faculty, Diyala University, during the years of 2023 and 2024 for a purpose of studying the impact of foliar feeding with jasmonic acid and irrigation periods on some chemical characteristics of three broccoli hybrids. The experiment used three hybrids, namely Gaith F1, Jassmine F1, and Naxos F1, as the first factor, three level of jasmonic acids (0, 10, and 20 mg L−1) were sprayed on the leaves as the second factor, and two irrigation periods (every three days and every six days) were the third factor. The Ghaith F1 cultivar achieved the plants’ maximum amount of chlorophyll, 1.23 mg g−1 weight, and a Jassmine F1 cultivar gave the highest value in proline content in leaves, 3.66 mg g−1 weight and a percentage of sulfur in the discs, 107.66%, while the Naxos F1 cultivar achieve the high value in carbohydrate concentration in a discs, 9.92% and ascorbic acid content in a discs, 3.69 mg 100 g−1 fresh weight. The spray treatment with jasmonic acid 20 mg L−1 was significant distinguished by giving the high values in a previous traits, which reached 1.30 mg g−1 weight, 4.17 mg g−1 weight, 137.05%, 11.25%, and 4.04 mg 100 g−1 respectively. Irrigation treatments every 3 day gave the highest values for all the studied traits, such as total chlorophyll, percentage of sulfur, carbohydrate concentration, and ascorbic acid content, which reached 1.35 mg g−1 fresh weight, 110.03%, 9.73 % and 3.90 mg 100 g−1 fresh weight, respectively.
