Abstract: We report and contextualize a remarkable eyewitness account of a bright fireball observed in southwestern Spain on 1918 August 31 by the Spanish amateur astronomer Miguel Romero Martínez. His detailed description, published in an early 20th-century Spanish astronomical journal, contributes to the historical record of meteor phenomena prior to the era of instrumental monitoring.
