Abstract: This study aims to examine the effect of mathematics teaching enriched with skill-based questions within the scope of the 7th-grade Operations with Whole Numbers unit of the 7th-grade middle school mathematics curriculum on the academic achievement of 7th-grade students in mathematics. The study was conducted with 7th graders in a middle school in Keçiören district of Ankara province in the 2023-2024 academic year. The study was conducted using experimental research, one of the quantitative research methods, and a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. Experimental and control groups were formed in two sections selected from all sections in the 7th grade. A total of 51 students, 24 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group were included in the study. The teaching of the Operations with Whole Numbers unit, which is a sub-learning area of the Numbers and Operations learning area, was carried out with plans prepared according to the current curriculum for the control group students and with the lesson plans enriched with skill-based questions prepared by the researcher for the experimental group. These trainings continued for 18 lesson hours for six weeks. As a data collection tool, the researcher prepared a mathematics academic achievement test as a pre-test and post-test. Dependent and independent samples t-test was applied to the scores obtained from the pre-test and post-test. As a result of the analyses, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in students' academic achievement in mathematics courses. Therefore, it can be said that mathematics teaching enriched with skill-based questions positively affects academic achievement in 7th grade. According to the findings obtained from the study, it is recommended that mathematics teachers should design lesson plans enriched with skill-based questions.
