What Are Student Motivations for and Expectations of Transnational Higher Education (TNHE): A Scoping Review

Abstract: Student motivations and expectations regarding Transnational Higher Education (TNHE) have gained increasing attention over the past two decades. This paper employs a bibliometric analysis of 266 journal articles from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, covering the period from 2014 to March 2024. Using the TCMT framework, we identify the theoretical concepts, contexts, methods, and main themes discussed in literature, and summarises the implications for future research. This study contributes to the existing body of literature by systematising research on student motivations and expectations within TNHE. The findings provide valuable references for researchers and practitioners seeking to further explore this area of knowledge.
