An Analysis of the Government's Impact on Achieving the SDGs in the Education Sector in Indonesia

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of government expenditure on the achievement of educational SDGs in Indonesia, measured by the completion rate senior high school/equivalent. Using panel data regression on 33 provinces from 2016-2023, the main variables are government expenditure on education, health, and social protection, with per capita income and poverty as controls. The results show that health function expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the SDGs 4 in education, while education and social protection expenditure are not significant. Per capita income has a positive significant effect, while poverty has a negative significant effect. The finding of this study indicate that investment in the health sector, increasing people's economic welfare and reducing poverty are more effective in advancing senior high school/equivalent completion, while also contributing to the literature and informing sustainable education policy strategies.
