Analysis of the Efficiency of Existing Transport and Technical Lines for Transporting Grain From Ukraine

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose. Due to large-scale aggression, it is difficult for the Ukrainian transport system to ensure stable exports of agricultural products, especially grains, legumes and their milling products. It remains important to find safe and effective ways to supply agricultural sector products from Ukraine and further into the global supply chain. The analysis found that most grains in export traffic are sent through sea trade ports. At the same time, the unstable functioning of the railway infrastructure necessitates the use of road transport, which reduces the overall efficiency of the transport system of Ukraine. It is proven that the most rational way of mass transportation is a multimodal or intermodal supply chain, which combines road transport (distribution and accumulation of goods), rail transport (delivery to port terminals) and sea transport (export of products to global markets). Accordingly, the purpose of the article is to analyze the efficiency of transport and technical lines for transporting grains from Ukraine. Methods. Expert assessment methods, agent modeling, probability theory and methods of mathematical statistics. Results. The study showed that the most rational way to deliver certain volumes of grain cargo within global supply chains is a multimodal or intermodal transport and technological route, which includes road, rail and sea transport with defined limits of responsibility. Depending on the place of origin of the route, it becomes possible to establish a logical sequence and effective distance of using these types of transport. Scientific novelty. A study of the work of mutually dependent types of transport included in the transport and technological chain of grain transportation was conducted and the places of origin of the main cargo flows were determined. The limits of the use of various types of transport included in the transport and technological chain were established. Practical significance. The results obtained allow to increase the efficiency of grain cargo exports from the territory of Ukraine and further advancement along global supply chains. The distribution of effective areas of use within the transport and technological route allows for reduced transportation costs, high delivery reliability and significant carrying capacity in global supply chains.
