Primary malignant melanoma of the bladder: A rare case report
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: This report discusses a rare case of primary malignant melanoma of the bladder in a 71-year-old woman, presenting with dysuria, urinary frequency, and hematuria. A pedunculated mass at the urethral meatus was found, and an 8 cm exophytic bladder lesion was identified via ultrasound. Cystoscopy and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. Despite a radical cystectomy, the patient passed away two months later. This case highlights a rare example of primary urinary bladder melanoma illustrating the value of an integrated clinical, imaging, and pathological approach in establishing the diagnosis and guide therapy of this rare but poorly behaved entity. • Primary malignant melanoma of the bladder is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. • Diagnosis relies on a combination of cystoscopy, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry, with characteristic pigmented appearance and positive melanocytic markers. • Patients typically present with gross hematuria and irritative urinary symptoms, often in advanced stages. • Surgical management options include radical cystectomy, but prognosis remains poor. • Early detection and a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach are crucial, though further research is essential to improve therapeutic strategies.
