Efficacy and Safety of Low-dose Perphenazine in the Treatment of Psychotic Symptoms of Senile Dementia

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of low-dose perphenazine in the treatment of psychotic symptoms in elderly patients with dementia. Methods: A total of 60 elderly patients with dementia and psychotic symptoms admitted to the hospital from January 2024 to December 2024 were selected and divided into two groups of 30 patients each using the random number table method. The control group (30 cases) received conventional treatment, while the observation group (30 cases) received low-dose perphenazine in addition to conventional treatment. The efficacy and safety were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The scores of all indicators of the Senile Clinical Assessment Geriatric Scale (SCAG) changed in both groups before and after treatment, and the improvement in the observation group was more significant after treatment, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was significantly low-er (P<0.05). Conclusion: Low-dose perphenazine has significant efficacy and good safety in the treatment of psychotic symptoms of senile dementia. It can effectively improve the total effective rate of treatment, significantly improve the mental state and living ability of patients, and has fewer adverse reactions.
