Abstract: A preterm boy was born at 33 weeks and 6 days of gestation with a birth weight of 2864 g. The preterm birth was attributed to the deteriorating prenatal diagnosis, hydrops fetalis. Bilateral pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, and ascites were confirmed by sonography after birth. Pigtail tubes were inserted bilaterally for the pleural effusion drainage. High-frequency oscillatory ventilation with a progressively high mean airway pressure (max. 30 cmH2O) was necessary for maintaining his blood oxygen saturation.
