Investigating the presence of phospholipase and secreted aspartyle proteinase gene family in different genotypes of Candida albicans species

Type: article
Abstract: OBJECTIVES: Candida albicans can become an opportunistic pathogen that causes several infections that can be fatal in immunocompromised patients. Factors contributing to Candida’s pathogenicity, including enzyme production, are crucial for tissue invasion and infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the genomic presence of secreted aspartyl proteinases (SAP) gene families and phospholipases B (PLB) genes in different genotypes of C. albicans species isolated from candidiasis patients and healthy people. RESULTS: In oral isolates, the predominant genotype was A (14/20, 70%). In the blood and vaginal isolates, genotype A (12/20, 60%) and genotype C (10/20, 50%) were predominant genotypes, respectively. There was a ubiquitous detection of SAP1 and SAP8 genes sequences (20/20, 100%) in oral isolates. Blood isolates exhibited a notable predominance of the SAP4 gene (18/20, 90%). In all vaginal isolates, the SAP2, SAP4, and SAP7 genes were presented (20/20, 100%). Additionally, the PLB2 gene was detected in all blood and vaginal isolates (20/20, 100%), whereas the PLB1 gene was predominantly identified in oral isolates (19/20, 95%).
