Elevated Activity of Acetylcholinesterase and Glutathione S-Transferase in Temephos-Resistant Aedes aegypti L

Type: article
Abstract: This study evaluates the enzymatic activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) in Aedes aegypti larvae from Salido. Susceptibility was assessed through a bioassay using 0.012 mg/L temephos, followed by biochemical assays. The larvae were categorized into three groups: (1) control (untreated), (2) survival (those that survived insecticide exposure), and (3) dead (those that succumbed to insecticide exposure). The results showed significantly higher enzymatic activity (p < 0.05) in the survival group for AChE (16.14 ± 1.96 U/L) and GST (10.24 ± 2.20 U/L), with AChE exhibiting a statistically significant increase compared to the control and dead groups. These findings suggest that metabolic resistance mechanisms contribute to insecticide resistance in A. aegypti larvae from Salido. Additionally, there were overlapping enzyme activity values between the survival and dead groups, indicating the involvement of other resistance mechanisms.
