Year: 2025
Type: dataset
Abstract: From Screen to Script: The Impact of Sexually Explicit Media on Adolescent Consent Beliefs and Practices• Sexually explicit media (SEM) frequently normalizes sexually coercive and violent scripts (Marshall et al., 2021).○ 1 in 8 videos shown to first-time users on mainstream porn sites depicting sexual violence (Vera-Gray et al., 2021).○ Often portrays consent refusal as nonverbal or implicit (Jozkowski et al., 2019; Willis et al., 2020).• Given the simultaneous development of consent scripts and SEM exposure, it is important to consider how these processes interact to shape adolescents' consent beliefs and behaviors.Research Question: How does SEM exposure inform consent beliefs and behavior?• H1: More frequent SEM use will be associated with lower consent beliefs and internal & external consent behavior.• H2: Frequency of masturbating with SEM use will be associated with lower beliefs and internal & external consent behavior.• H3: Stronger perception of SEM as a sex info source will be related to lower beliefs and internal & external consent behavior.
