Characteristic-mode assisted design of Lishu Huai-shaped patch antenna with penta-band unidirectional radiation

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper introduces an innovative Huai-shaped patch antenna, crafted in the Lishu script style, that seamlessly blends cultural artistry with advanced wireless communication technology. The antenna is designed to operate across five distinct frequency bands: 1.6, 1.9, 2.3, 2.7, and 3.2 GHz, with an average peak gain of 8 dBi, closely aligning with simulated results of 8.5 dBi. The antenna is compact, measuring 0.79 × 0.79 × 0.08 λL3, where λL is the free-space wavelength at the lowest resonant frequency. Utilizing Characteristic Mode Theory (CMT), the antenna exhibits high-directional radiation and a maximum band ratio of 2.0, surpassing the performance of current multi-band unidirectional antennas. This design not only boosts communication efficiency but also honors the rich cultural legacy of Chinese calligraphy through its aesthetic design. By integrating traditional artistic elements with state-of-the-art engineering, this work showcases the harmonious fusion of cultural heritage and technological innovation, meeting the increasing demand for high-performance antennas in the dynamic field of wireless communications.
