More Than Just Race: Redefining the Impact of Sociocultural and Biologic Determinants on Aging and Well-Being of Older Diverse Populations
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The words of Audre Lorde remind us how people from racially minoritized groups define their positioning in a society that often neither respects nor acknowledges the narrative of their existence. This is documented by a historical lineage perpetuated by structural racism, ageism, sexism, and the many -isms that define one’s social positioning. Yet, understanding the daily lived experiences of these groups allows us to disentangle societal indiscretions, while also acknowledging messages of resilience and strength.
