Abstract: In general, sulfide solid electrolytes exhibit high ionic conductivity among inorganic solid electrolytes. However, solid sulfide electrolytes have low water resistance. The objective of this study was to develop sulfide solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and water resistance using nitrides. Among sulfide solid electrolytes, the 70Li2S·30P2S5 glass-ceramic has high Li-ion conductivity. However, it has poor stability against moisture. In this study, composite solid electrolytes of the 70Li2S·30P2S5 glass-ceramic incorporating Li3AlN2 were prepared to improve the stability against moisture while maintaining high ionic conductivity. Glass-ceramic solid electrolytes with the composition (100–x)(0.70Li2S·0.30P2S5)·xLi1.5Al0.5N were synthesized via mechanical milling and consecutive heat treatment above their crystallization temperature. The 80(0.70Li2S·0.30P2S5)·20Li1.5Al0.5N (LPASN20) glass-ceramic exhibited a conductivity of 1.7 mS cm−1 at 25 °C and excellent stability against moisture. Compositions with halide substitutions in the LPASN20 glass-ceramic were investigated to increase the ionic conductivity. The 80{0.80(0.70Li2S·0.30P2S5)·0.20Li1.5Al0.5N}·12LiBr·8LiI (LPASNBrI) glass-ceramic exhibited a high conductivity of 4.7 mS cm−1 at 25 °C and excellent stability against moisture. The charge–discharge performance of an LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 (NCM523) cathode with LPASNBrI was evaluated. The LPASNBrI glass-ceramics were sufficiently stable for application to NCM cathodes. The LPASNBrI glass-ceramic has not only high ionic conductivity but also excellent chemical stability.
