Abstract: • Study on flow separation and aerodynamic noise of high-speed hair dryer • Blunt blade leading edge can lead to significant flow separation • By optimizing the blade twist angle, chord length, and guide vane structure, the flow separation zone is reduced and efficiency is improved • Reduce hair dryer noise by 2.88% and increase air volume by 7.39% through optimization This study investigated the problems of flow separation and aerodynamic noise generated by high-speed hair dryer during operation through computational fluid dynamics simulations and experiments. Simulation analysis showed that the original moving impeller blade had a blunt leading edge and the airflow changed dramatically at this edge, resulting in significant flow separation. This likely generated significant noise and affected the outlet airflow of the blower. Therefore, we propose the adjustment of the twist and sweep angles to reduce the intensity of blade-tip vortex shedding as well as the optimization of the guide-vane streamline design to reduce wake vortex noise. Numerical analysis and experimental testing showed that the newly designed structure reduced noise by 2.88% and increased the air volume by 7.39% under standard operating conditions, achieving noise reduction and performance improvement of the hair dryer. This study provides a theoretical basis and technical approach for developing low-noise and high-efficiency hair dryers.
