Physical Zoo in Pb-Cu-P-S-O Apatite
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Further constraints on material dimensionality are expected to allow for the emergence of more physical phases. However, the thermal stability of materials tends to decrease in lower dimensions. The quasi-one-dimensional structure within apatite offers an ideal framework for doping. Using copper-doped lead apatite as the foundational structure, further doping with non-metallic elements can induce transitions between insulating, semiconducting, metallic, and even superconducting states, as well as giving rise to diverse magnetic properties. This effectively creates a veritable 'zoo of physics'.
