Historical Science in the North Caucasus: Trajectories of Research Discourses
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article attempts to trace the vector of intellectual discourse in the study of key events in the history of the North Caucasus during the XVIII–XIX centuries. We are talking about the theoretical and methodological problems that researchers in the national republics of the North Caucasus faced in the post-Soviet years. A review of recent historiography shows that not all regional communities have managed to overcome the inertia of the Marxist-Leninist methodology with its outdated principle of presenting material and linear interpretations of historical events. The older generation of historians bogged down in archaic stereotypes of historical writing, content only with shifting evaluative accents. The trend towards expanding the theoretical field of research, based on modern methodological techniques and updated conceptual tools, has not yet become dominant, although the number of works that take into account the idea of the multivariate historical process is steadily growing.
