Abstract: Familiarizing the fundamental principles of color is essential when choosing shades.[14][15][16] Munsell described color as a threedimensional concept, including hue, value, and chroma.16 Value, although lacking hue, is crucial for achieving an appropriate shade match.17,18 The hue of teeth indicates their main color, which could IntroductIonThe capacity of dentists to precisely select and convey an appropriate shade match to a dental laboratory is essential in dentistry. The patients' cosmetic index has made it essential for practitioners to deliver restorations that can effectively mimic the natural dentition.1 There is a difference in the ability to match shades when using traditional methods, to some extent, due to the combination of factors. 2 Shade selection can be influenced by different variables, such as the age, experience, and color perception of the person choosing the shade, as well as the tooth's shape, texture, and lighting conditions.[3][4][5][6] Shade guide tabs can vary even within the same manufacturer.7 Furthermore, dentists have exhibited inconsistency in shadematching [8][9][10][11] even under controlled lighting conditions and when shade-matching procedures were followed meticulously.12 To ensure precision, various protocols have been established for clinical setup, lighting, patient and operator positioning, and the use of a standard shade guide.Understanding these protocols is vital for accurate and consistent visual shade selection.1 While other tools, such as colorimeters and spectrophotometers, are available, they are costly, require training, and are not completely reliable.13 Therefore, many dentists still rely on conventional techniques for shade choosing.
