One-dimensional optical compression and backpropagation of particle digital in-line holograms

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The camera sensor fill rate (SFR) is a key factor limiting the number of particles analyzed by digital in-line holography (DIH). This study proposes the use of cylindrical lenses to reduce hologram imprint and interference on the sensor, significantly lowering the SFR without changing the observed field dimensions. Experimental results on sprayed and levitated droplets, as well as simulations using Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integrals and ABCD analysis, confirm this approach. However, using a backpropagation method to reconstruct the particle field, the primary benefit of this compression method is the reduction of the twin-particle problem. The authors believe that this optical method could further improve the performance of inverse and parametric methods by minimizing interference between the holograms.
