Abstract: In this paper, the symmetric character of the thermal conductivity tensor for anisotropic materials is established based on arguments from tensor analysis and the physical constraints on the domain of definition of the conductivity tensor. The non-singular nature of the conductivity tensor plays a fundamental role in demonstrating not only its symmetry but also its positive definiteness.
