Abstract: Without belittling or ignoring existing controversies among Marxist intellectuals, the article suggests, as one of the main convergences of this tradition, the defense that the development of the aesthetic dimension and the emergence of art testify to an enrichment of human rationality, however contradictory it may be, considering its link with the division between manual and intellectual labor. To this end, the article draws on the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, and some eminent Marxists who dedicated themselves to research in the area.
