Effect of K + Ion in Alginate‐PVA Solid Biopolymer Electrolyte Doped with Potassium Carbonate on Ionic Conduction Properties

Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT This study emphasizes the electrical and conduction properties of the solid biopolymer electrolytes (SBEs) based Sodium Alginate (Alginate) blended with Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and doped with varying concentrations of Potassium Carbonate (K 2 CO 3 ). The full frequency range (50 Hz–1 MHz) at room temperature has been examined using impedance spectroscopy and shows the highest ionic conductivity with 10 −5 S/cm for a sample containing 12 wt.% K 2 CO 3 . The addition of ionic dopant shows enhancement in the dielectric constant, and the loss tangent plot's shift of the relaxation peak towards high frequency implies a shorter relaxation period. The phase transition for increased dielectric constant was observed. The increasing permittivity complex was observed at low frequency, from the observation showing that increasing temperature followed the increase in conductivity. It is projected that the non‐Debye type relaxation is based on an uneven peak form in the imaginary portion of the electric modulus (M i ). The real part of the electric modulus shows the SBE system is more capacitive. The Quantum Mechanical Tunnel (QMT) model was utilized to describe how the frequency exponent (s) behaved with temperature after it was computed. This work suggests the great potential of K + ion from K 2 CO 3 ionic dopant and makes it promising to serve as an energy storage and electrochemical device.
