Bronchiectasis associated with ulcerative colitis relapse after lung transplantation: a case report
Year: 2025

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Extract We report the case of a 38-year-old woman who underwent double lung transplantation (LTx) in March 2020 for end-stage respiratory failure secondary to ulcerative colitis (UC) associated with bronchiectasis. She had undergone a subtotal colectomy with ileostomy in 2017. Pre-transplant evaluation showed no evidence of primary immunodeficiency, with normal immunoglobulin levels and lymphocyte subsets; no genetic testing was performed. After LTx, maintenance immunosuppressive (IS) treatment consisted initially of tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), and steroids. Due to poor gastrointestinal tolerance, MMF was switched to azathioprine. The evolution of lung function was satisfactory with a stable forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1).
