Reassessing Ferroptosis in Bullous Pemphigoid: Methodological and Translational Considerations
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Involvement of ferroptosis in bullous pemphigoid pathogenesis [1]," which comprehensively examined ferroptosis as a novel mechanism in this autoimmune blistering disorder. The authors should be commended for integrating single-cell transcriptomic analysis, molecular validation, and functional assays to provide compelling evidence that ferroptosis in keratinocytes contributes to tissue injury and disease activity. This work significantly expands our understanding of BP beyond classical autoantibodymediated mechanisms. From a clinical dermatology perspective, however, I would like to raise two concerns regarding the study design that may affect the robustness of the conclusions.
