Development of a novel in-vivo analysis for monocrotaline based on adenine-coated hollow eggshell-like mesoporous carbon@silica nanoparticles

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this work, the functionalization of mesoporous carbon@silica nanoparticles was described for recognizing monocrotaline in vivo to reach the goal of develop a diagnostic framework for hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) that aligns with biochemical indicators. Initially, adenine was successfully immobilized on hollow mesoporous carbon using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as a coupling agent. The structural and morphological properties of the adenine-coated carbon nanoparticles were systematically characterized using a combination of analytical techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adsorption performance of the adenine-coated nanoparticles was thoroughly evaluated through adsorption isotherm and kinetics studies. Subsequently, nanoparticles were employed as solid-phase extraction adsorbents for the enrichment of potential hepatotoxic compounds in rat liver tissues. The concentrations of monocrotaline were meticulously correlated with pharmacological indices and biochemical indicators in a rat model, which provided novel insights into the diagnosis of HVOD.
