Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: African Swine Fever poses a significant threat to the swine industry. The design of low-cost diagnostic devices that facilitate simple, real-time, and precise diagnostics is of paramount importance. In this study, a low-cost microfluidic chip and servo driven integrated nucleic acid rapid diagnosis device is designed using magnetic beads for nucleic acid extraction, transfer and loop mediated isothermal amplification technology. The fabrication of the microfluidic chips and device components is accomplished using a mini CNC milling machine and a 3D printer. This device can perform the diagnostics in 60 minutes without manual intervention, achieving a detection limit of 10² copies/μL. The production cost of this device is about $80, and the cost of one inspection is only $ 1.5, and the overall weight is about 2 kg. The microfluidic chip and the associated equipment offer advantages such as compact size, independence from external power sources, and suitability for field applications, all at a low cost. This microfluidic chip and its associated device contribute to effective ASF prevention and control, ensure food safety. Furthermore, the design serves as a reference for low-cost rapid diagnostics of other infectious diseases.
