Ultra‐wideband raster‐scanning optoacoustic mesoscopy as a histologic‐grade tool for melanoma depth assessment

Type: article
Abstract: Depth versus resolution of non-invasive skin imaging modalities.Comparative visualization of the imaging depth (x-axis, in millimetres) and spatial resolution (y-axis, in micrometres) for non-invasive skin imaging technologies.Reflectance confocal microscopy achieves the highest resolution but is limited to superficial depths.Line-field confocal optical coherence tomography provides similar resolution with slightly improved penetration.Optical coherence tomography offers more depth with reduced resolution.Raster-scanning optoacoustic mesoscopy (RSOM) balances high-resolution and deeper imaging, while high-frequency ultrasound achieves the greatest depth but with limited resolution.RSOM occupies a unique position in the imaging spectrum, bridging the gap between cellular resolution and histology-level depth.HFUS, high-frequency ultrasound;
