Effect of Government Support and Support Services on the Sustainability of Solar Social Enterprises: A Case Study of Nairobi, Kenya
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study examines the effect of government support and support services provided by incubators and accelerators on the sustainability of solar social enterprises (SSEs) in Nairobi County, Kenya.Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data was collected from 20 managers and founders through semi-structured interviews and analysis of relevant reports and online news articles.Key findings revealed that policy consistency, targeted financial incentives, and tailored support services enhance SSE growth, market expansion and resilience. However, policy unpredictability and generic support services hinder long-term growth. From a practical perspective, the research uncovers the entrepreneurial dynamic capabilities that managers and founders of social enterprises in constrained entrepreneurship ecosystems employ to drive long-term growth of their enterprises.Theoretically, the study extends the use of dynamic capabilities in resource constrained entrepreneurship ecosystems.
