A Case Report of Infective Endocarditis With Icterus

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Infective endocarditis, a severe condition with high morbidity and mortality, requires timely diagnosis and treatment. We present a case of a 49-year-old male with a 3-day history of icterus, abdominal pain, loose stool, and high-grade fever. He was unwell for 3 days prior to presenting. Despite normal cardiac and abdominal examinations, transthoracic echocardiography revealed a large mitral valve mass with severe regurgitation, necessitating emergency surgery. Successful mitral valve repair and vegetation removal led to full recovery. This case underscores the importance of early echocardiography in patients with systemic symptoms such as icterus, abdominal pain, and fever to promptly identify infective endocarditis and prevent complications.
