A multi-stage coordinated resilience enhancement strategy for distribution networks considering voltage quality

Type: article
Abstract: Power distribution networks (PDNs) are highly susceptible to extreme natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and earthquakes, which present significant risks to the reliability of power supply. However, existing studies often focus on isolated disaster stages and fail to adequately address the role of Mobile Energy Storage Systems (MESSs) in improving voltage quality and supporting system resilience. This paper proposes a three-stage coordinated resilience strategy that integrates MESS to enhance PDN performance during extreme events. In the pre-disaster stage, MESS pre-positioning is optimized, accounting for uncertainties in photovoltaic (PV) generation. During and post-disaster stages, MESS is coordinated with distributed generation (DG), on-load tap changers (OLTC), static VAR compensators (SVC), capacitive banks (CB), and repair teams, accounting for the coupling between the electrical network and the transportation network as well as the impacts of extreme natural disasters on traffic congestion, to stabilize the system, minimize load loss, and improve voltage quality. Simulation results on modified IEEE 33–bus and IEEE 141–bus test systems demonstrate that the proposed strategy significantly enhances PDN resilience by reducing voltage deviations and ensuring efficient disaster recovery. The findings underscore the pivotal role of MESS in enhancing power system stability, mitigating voltage fluctuations, and enabling rapid recovery under extreme conditions. • A comprehensive three-stage resilience enhancement strategy for power distribution networks is proposed, integrating power-transportation coupling and voltage quality. • To address photovoltaic uncertainty, a robust pre-disaster optimization model using a column-and-constraint generation algorithm determines optimal pre-disaster states for MESS pre-positioning, network reconfiguration, on load tap changers, and capacitor banks. • Considering disaster-induced traffic delays, a coordinated dispatch strategy integrates Mobile Energy Storage Systems, distributed generations, on-load tap changers, static var compensators, capacitor banks, interconnection lines, and repair crews.
