Synchronized Drying and Structural Engineering of Thick Electrodes for High‐Performance Lithium‐Ion Batteries by Laser Processing
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study addresses the technical challenges in thick electrode systems for lithium‐ion batteries, including limited ion transport kinetics, poor electrolyte wettability, and microstructural damage induced by conventional drying processes, by introducing a novel in situ coupled manufacturing method for electrode drying and structuring based on nanosecond pulsed laser technology. Through optimized laser parameters, the high‐energy laser beam facilitates rapid solvent evaporation while simultaneously constructing vertically oriented microgrooves and hierarchical porous structures on the LiFePO 4 electrode surface, establishing a cross‐scale synergistic ion/electron dual‐continuous transport system characterized by “macro‐channels, micro‐cavities, nano‐pores.” This architecture significantly enhances the specific surface area and ion transport efficiency of the electrode, while improving its mechanical stability and electrolyte wettability uniformity. Electrochemical performance evaluations demonstrate that the optimized electrode exhibits remarkable improvements in reversible specific capacity, fast charging capability, and cycling stability. This technology achieves the synergistic integration of drying and structuring in a single‐step process, offering a solution for the efficient fabrication of thick lithium‐ion battery electrodes that combines process innovation with performance enhancement.
