Microbiome and actinobacterial community of mangrove ecosystem
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Mangrove ecosystems harbor diverse microbial communities vital for ecosystem health. This study employed metagenomic and culture-based methods to compare bacterial communities across mangrove sediment, water, and terrestrial soil. Sediment samples showed the highest microbial diversity, while beta-diversity analyses confirmed that each habitat possesses a distinct microbial composition, shaped by local environmental gradients. Notably, Actinobacterial communities in sediment and water were dominated by uncultured taxa, contrasting with terrestrial soils which had a higher proportion of known genera. The successful isolation of biotechnologically important genera like Streptomyces and Micromonospora from the sediment highlights the potential of mangroves as a source for novel bioactive compounds. Overall, our findings underscore the functional importance of mangrove microbiomes and their value for future bioprospecting.
