The Effect of Six Thinking Hats Technique on Writing Skills: a Systematic Literature Review
Year: 2025
Type: review
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: The writing reflects the cognitive level of a writer as it involves the ability to think, language proficiency, and memory skills. Thinking is the most crucial skill in an individual, and the Six Thinking Hats method is an adaptable tool that can assist writers in their writing. This systematic literature review concerns the effects of using Six Thinking Hats on writing. The study utilized the PRISMA method (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and involved six databases: Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Science Direct (SD), Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), OpenAIRE, and Springer. Four articles were selected from 45 articles through a search of the past 10 years (2013 – 2022). The study findings indicate that the Six Thinking Hats method not only enhances students' writing skills but also provides other positive effects such as idea development, facilitating a brainstorming process, fostering students' creativity in writing, increasing motivation for learning, and boosting students' confidence after applying the Six Thinking Hats method.
