Type: article
Abstract: The herbal plants Citrullus colocynthis L. and Datura stramonium L. are growing extremely to the various geographical areas. Although the two have been utilized to treat infections as effectively as possible, nothing is known about their antifungal capabilities. The Samples of D. stramonium were collected from Village Taho, Taluka Islamkot, and C. colocynthis were collected from village Dabhi Dohat, Taluka Diplo, District Tharparkar, Sindh, Pakistan. Using ethanol, methanol, and distilled water, we prepared antifungal extracts from these plants and evaluated their effectiveness against Fusarium oxysporum fungus. In vitro assay was performed to measure the antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum using the disc diffusion method. The antifungal assay of the consequent extracts 10ng/μL, 20ng/μL, and 30ng/μL was evaluated against Fusarium oxysporum at variable concentrations. Zones of inhibition were measured after six days, and percentage inhibition was calculated relative to positive and negative controls. The extracts from all plant sections and solvents exhibited substantial antifungal efficiency, particularly in comparison to the negative control (distilled water) and positive control (azoxystrobin). Ethanol extracts of D. stramonium exhibited the highest activity (70% inhibition), while aqueous extracts of C. colocynthis showed notable efficacy (56% inhibition). Different parts of plants and solvents presented notable differences in antifungal activity. This emphasizes that these plants contain strong potential as natural antifungal agents and should be considered for further study to identify and develop their more phytochemical properties for medicine and agricultural purposes.
