Abstract: The article analyzes the conditions that arose for the creation of the museum as a result of the first scientific expeditions to the Surkhandarya oasis in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The influence of socio-political changes, the activation of scientific expeditions, and cultural and educational movements will be studied. It is shown that interest in studying the rich historical heritage of the Surkhandarya region laid the foundation for the development of museology.
