Inflation and Intellectual Capital: What Do We Know?

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper focuses on a bibliometric examination of the literature addressing the intersection between inflation and intellectual capital — two important yet traditionally distinct areas of research. Amid inflation and the growing importance of intangible assets, the relationship between instability and knowledge-based resources is gaining significance. Intellectual capital plays a key role in enhancing competitiveness, and innovation capacity within firms. However, its connection with inflation is inconsistently addressed in the literature. Using bibliometric analysis of 5,704 records from the Web of Science database (1990–2025), this study maps the development, structure, and thematic clusters of research in this domain. The findings suggest that, in the literature, inflation is often associated with corporate investment in intangible assets. In many studies, intellectual capital is presented as a potential stabilising factor during periods of uncertainty, particularly in sectors reliant on innovation and human expertise.
