Abstract: To evaluate the effect of passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) and photon-initiated photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) protocols on bond strength of fibre posts. Thirty-six single-root permanent human teeth were divided into 3 groups (n = 12 each) including control, PUI and PIPS group. After instrumentation preparation, control group was rinsed with syringes. In PUI and PIPS group, irrigations were activated by PUI and PIPS.The root canals were obturated and prepared to provide space for the post. Subsequently, PUI and PIPS group were redistributed into 2 subgroups (n = 6): subgroup1, rinsed with syringes (PUI-1 and PIPS-1 group); subgroup 1+2, activated with PUI and PIPS, respectively (PUI-1+2 and PIPS-1+2 group). Samples were examine the cleaning effect and the bonding interface by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the push out bond strength of post was recorded. After PUI and PIPS activation, smear layer was significantly removed, PIPS showed better cleaning effect. The activation of PUI during root canal treatment (RCT) could not improve the bond strength of post and depth of resin process. The PUI-1+2, PIPS-1 and PIPS-1+2 group demonstrated a significant increase in bond strength and resin infiltration compared to the PUI-1 and control groups. There was no significance between PIPS-1 and PIPS-1+2 group. PUI activation after post preparation could improve values for fibre posts bonded to dentin. Importantly, PIPS activation only used during RCT could significantly improved the bond strength and resin infilitration.
