3D-Printed Trays & Facial Scanning For Denture Occlusal-Jaw Determination

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: This study introduces a novel method that combines 3D-printed custom trays with facial scanning technology to improve removable denture fabrication. The technique allows for precise determination of the occlusal planes, facial plumpness, and jaw relation records. By integrating digital measurements, the method simplifies the process, reduces clinical visits, and provides intuitive visualization for both clinicians and patients, especially for those with limited experience. A patient with a partially edentulous maxillary arch and an edentulous mandibular arch was selected to demonstrate this technique. This approach provides a precise and objective methodology for determining occlusal planes, facial plumpness, and jaw relation records. By utilizing facial scan data, it introduces a 3D visual tool for clinicians and patients to assess facial proportion harmony, addressing the subjectivity and variability inherent in traditional workflows. This technique integrates 3D-printed custom trays with occlusion rims and facial scanning to precisely determine occlusal planes, facial plumpness, and jaw relation records. Assisted by digital tools, it offers an efficient and objective workflow that improves both esthetic and functional outcomes, particularly benefiting less experienced clinicians.
